How to Show Meta Description in Search Results

AddSearch can display a page's meta description as the highlighted text in search results. If the meta description is not present on a web page, AddSearch uses selected content from that page instead.

Meta descriptions are limited to 150 characters in the search result highlight. To ensure that your entire meta description is shown, keep it under 150 characters.

Enabling Meta Descriptions in Search Results

To show meta descriptions in your AddSearch results:

  1. Open the Search Designer tool.
  2. In the Basic options section, check the Display Meta Description option.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and click Apply Changes to save settings.
  4. Copy and update the installation script on your website with the new code from Search Designer.

After these steps, your search results will show meta descriptions as highlighted text when available.

If a meta description is not defined on a given web page, AddSearch defaults to extracting relevant content from the page for the highlighted text.
